Last Wednesday, I had the great opportunity to attend the 2010 Techpoint Summit. For those of you that don't know, Techpoint is organization with the mission of "accelerating Indiana's emerging and vibrant tech sector" (source: www.techpoint.org). This great organization fosters and nurtures the technology sector that is developing in Indiana. It brings the innovators together and gives them a voice. And, their yearly summit is an excellent example of the work they are doing. In the same space you had start-up SaaS companies, universities, and yes, technology legal counsel. They had stellar presentations and panels on the areas that are emerging and important to us all. Some of those included: social media, cloud computing, private equity, funding, clean technologies, to name a few. Additionally, Nicholas Carr provided amazing insights during the keynote presentation on the implications on innovation and cloud computing.
This is an event that Alerding Castor Hewitt is proud to sponsor and participate in. Several of our clients are on the cutting edge of the tech sector and were present at the summit. I thought they were all well-represented and had a good showing. Techpoint's staff and volunteers provided excellent service and organization. Overall, I thought the event was superb and I really enjoyed it.
A couple of shout-outs of note: First, the obligatory well-done to Dave Castor on his moderation of the private equity panel. Also, big kudos to the Social Media panel of Jay Baer (Convince & Convert Blog), John Lopes (Andretti Green Racing), Chris Baggott (Compendium Blogware), and Tim Kopp (ExactTarget). These guys had a very informative and entertaining panel that I thought was top-notch.
Overall, the Innovation Summit lived up to its name. New tech, SaaS, Private Equity, Start-ups. Everybody had something to see, and I can't wait for next year. Thanks for the memories Techpoint.
