Thanks to the wonderful folks over at Compendium Blogware, I presented a fun webinar last week on the Legal Landscape of Corporate Blogging. Don't fret, dear reader; I intend to put together several posts over the weekend that hit the highlights of my presentation. Overall, I discussed topics like privacy litigation, copyright, defamation, Section 230 protections, etc. The fun stuff of blogging.
One area that I discussed and have had several questions about is Creative Commons. For those of you that don't already know, Creative Commons is a non-profit organization that provides various levels of licenses to copyrighted or copyrightable material, so that you can look for and utilize content in the public space in a manner consistent with the original owner's wishes. From the perspective of your technology legal counsel, this organization is awesome because it allows for public space users to create and disseminate ideas while still observing those pesky copyright laws. As a lawyer, I like it when my clients can do what they want and follow the law.
So it pleased me greatly to discover that CC was launching a new search interface. The new address for this is labs.creativecommons.org/demos/search/search1/. It is still in beta, but in my opinion, this interface will better allow the end-user to search for and locate content that meets their needs both from a creative and a legally compliant perspective.
So dear reader, I urge you to check out the new interface and use it to generate content-galore for your blogs or other activities. And say tuned for new blog posts from your friendly neighborhood technology legal counsel on the treacherous peaks and valleys of the legal landscape of corporate blogging. Good blogging and be safe out there.
